Wheat & gluten free diet

What is the first thing you think about when you hear the word diet? I'll bet 95% of you will think 'losing weight', am I right? Well this page is about diet. But by diet I mean healthy eating, to ensure that your body gets the nutrition that it needs from an already compromised dietary intake if you have a wheat or gluten allergy.

More fruit, veg, & vitamin C

To commence your healthy eating regime start by promising yourself (and enforcing it) that you will eat a minimum of 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day, 10 is better. Get into the habit now, it'll get easier, and you'll be amazed that by eating more fruit and veg you will start to eat less junk food, sweets, and calorie laden 'treats' because the fruit and veg will fill you up. On top of this you will be getting a natural boost of vitamin C and fibre daily, which will be better than popping a supplement.

Need help getting started?

If you need a bit of help to get you started then we are very impressed with "The Eat Clean Diet" by Tosca Reno. She's not the inventor of eating clean, but she is doing a well publicised job of getting it into mainstream eating.

Clean eating is basically about eschewing all those highly processed ready made foods and eating foods in their most basic form. In other words, avoiding those heavily packaged, sugar laden foods on the shelves and instead eating good, wholesome, freshly made foods without all those nasty preservatives, sugar, salt, fat etc.

The diet is big on fresh fruit and vegetables, complex carbohydrates and lean protein. There aren't many rules to follow: eat 6 meals a day, drink lots of water, cut out the sugar, cut out high fat foods, and eat the food as naturally as it comes. Okay so you can still have gourmet meals on this diet, you just start with the fresh foods, rather than buying things pre-made.

Tosca Reno has also published several other clean eating books, including workout journals and recipe books, even a book specifically aimed for the man in the house. Check out her other publications on our books page.

If you start eating clean then not only will you have a glowing healthy skin and body, but the other benefit is that you should also have lost weight, so a win-win situation.
