Wheat & gluten free Pamela's Lemon Shortbread review

One of the things that people on a wheat or gluten free diet miss is crunch. Cookies are too often soft and chewy, not crunchy and full of crispy texture. Many biscuit/cookie manufacturers seem to think that having to go wheat or gluten free means that you don't have any teeth either!

So we were keen to try these shortbread biscuits for more than just their taste.

On opening the packet the lemon smell was lovely, no doubt because of the natural lemon flavour and lemon oil used in the recipe. However only 9 shortbread biscuits in the box was a bit of a disappointment.

We were also pleased to see the biscuits were still in one piece, too often wheat or gluten free biscuits are just a packet of crumbs, having been too fragile for any normal sort of handling.

The biscuits had a firm, crisp feeling texture, and biting into them was really enjoyable. They had a good shortbread texture and just enough crunch to satisfy.

The taste was very good indeed, the lemon flavour really did come out in the mouth, we could also taste the butter, giving the biscuits a nice shortbread feel and taste.

Overall we liked these lemon shortbread biscuits, however, as usual we think that this does not justify the high price for the small number of biscuits in the pack.

Our testing panel is made up of people with wheat allergies and also people who can eat wheat as part of their normal diet.
