Is soy sauce safe on a wheat or gluten free diet?
There are three basic types of soy sauce available, regular soy sauce which is fermented with wheat, Tamari wheat free soy sauce, and Tamari fermented wheat soy sauce.
Products that are not specifically wheat/gluten free will normally list "soy sauce", and this will be the regular wheat containing version.
Wheat/gluten free products that contain soy sauce will normally refer to "Tamari soy sauce" in their ingredients list.
However, use caution when purchasing Tamari as it comes in two versions, Tamari wheat free soy sauce, and regular Tamari soy sauce which contains wheat.
